  • Open Letter to Eagan Residents on Snow Removal

Despite remarkable efforts and long hours to clear streets of snow from recent storms, challenges remain for Eagan's winter trail snow removal. If we get four inches more of snow (likely) before the end of the year, this will be the snowiest December since 1891. In an open letter to Eagan residents, an expert explains the problem and the City asks for your continued patience. We also ask that you think of neighbors during this holiday season that may be single moms, seniors, shut-ins, or away on vacation, if they need help tackling the snow at the bottom of the driveway.

Only about 24% of trails designated for winter snow removal in the city were able to be cleared following the December 10-11 seventeen inch snowfall. The December 20th snowfall forced a return of all crews to street clearing operations. Current priorities are bridge decks, sight lines exiting both neighborhoods and business districts, and addressing snow space limitation issues in cul de sacs. On top of that, some crews had to be pulled to address two water main breaks, something which happens seasonally, but hasn't been helpful given other needs.
