Fire Department

The mission of the Eagan Fire Department is dedicated to protecting and serving the community with reliable response by highly trained professionals.

The Eagan Fire Department has three fire stations that consist of approximately 95 part-time/ paid-on-call firefighters, six full-time firefighters, and five fire administration staff. The six full-time firefighters consist of two fire captains and four firefighters. The administration staff members include: three fire chiefs, one fire administrative assistant and one office support specialist.

On our department, we have 6 certified as paramedics, 37 certified as emergency medical technicians, and 48 certified as emergency medical responders. With our highly skilled and educated firefighters, we are able to provide medical care prior to the arrival of, or in conjunction with, the ambulance paramedics and police department personnel.

Eagan has a part-time/paid-on-call department that is operated by a full-time duty crew that staffs an engine Monday through Friday from 6AM-6PM. This staffing model was formed based on our call volume, which provides a quicker response time. Our full-time duty crew response time is appx. 5 minutes and our part-time/paid-on-call crew response time is appx. 9 minutes. The City of Eagan ranks the 9th largest populated city in Minnesota. Eagan Fire protects a population of 67,000 residents that covers an area of 34.5 square miles.

Eagan Fire is very proud to have achieved and maintained an Insurance Service Organization (ISO) grading of 3. ISO stands for the Insurance Services Office.  ISO collects information on municipal fire departments and then assigns them with a Public Protection Classification from 1 to 10.  Class 1 generally represents superior fire protection services, while Class 10 represents a service level that doesn’t meet ISO’s minimum fire protection criteria.  ISO ratings help insurance companies determine fire insurance premiums and also provide communities with an opportunity to evaluate the services being provided by their fire department.
